Entertainment Reviews:
Even though Truman’s scripted life seems perfect, Peter Weir uses its cookie-cutter conformity to illustrate a disturbing world frozen in time.
The Atlantic
4 stars out of 5 -- 1998's ingenious THE TRUMAN SHOW is a remarkable exercise in pre-emptively satirizing the reality TV phenomenon that it surely helped to inspire.
Uncut
In the end, Weir's movie is more a capitulation than a challenge to television, and a vulgar one at that. Truman turns out to be more Burbank than he is True-man.

Rating: 3.5/4 --
Most movies are lucky to have one idea rattling around inside. The unusually resonant Truman positively vibrates with themes.

You can't take your eyes off Jim Carry. He's the most likable clown since Charlie Chaplin, and his sunny smile lightens the serious subject matter. He's the perfect subject to make Reality TV a reality.

One of the smartest, most inventive movies in memory, it manages to be as endearing as it is provocative.

Peter Weir's film is so cleverly conceived and brilliantly executed that it almost seems like a fresh thought. And even if it doesn't, it nevertheless forms the basis of a very witty exercise.

Product Description:
Comic actor Jim Carrey plays it (mostly) straight for this smart satire from director Peter Weir (DEAD POETS SOCIETY). The life of Truman Burbank (Carrey) has been broadcast around the world with tremendous success since the day he was born. A star for the mere fact that he exists, Truman has no idea that there are cameras in every corner of his world. But soon, cracks begin to show in the constructed world, and Truman questions his existence while everyone around him is in on the joke. Weir directs a fine cast, including Laura Linney as Truman's wife and Ed Harris as the show's director. Screenwriter Andrew Niccol also added interesting twists to the scripts for S1M0NE and GATTACA.
