Description by OLDIES.com:
A shy Montana attorney who's never argued in court, Maxwell Webster (Glenn Ford) finally gets up the nerve to quit his firm and start over in Los Angeles. Moving into a "fast" neighborhood, Max is shocked to find his phone number once belonged to a bookie, and Max's wife (Ruth Roman) has accepted a bet. So when a gangster (Sheldon Leonard) demands the wager be honored and they both get thrown in the clink, Max has no choice but to try his own case and pray it won't be his last.
