Entertainment Reviews:
Description by OLDIES.com:
"Checkmate" was one of the best television dramas to come out of the 1960s, combining great scripts, locations and casting. Created by thriller-writer Eric Ambler and filmed on the streets of San Francisco, the series revolves around private investigators and their quest to prevent crimes before they happen. The show's haunting, iconic music is perfectly suited for the San Francisco setting, of fog-filled streets, sweeping ocean views and cable cars.
Product Description:
As originally aired on CBS from September 1960 through September 1962, the prime time detective drama CHECKMATE starred Anthony George and Doug McClure as, respectively, Don Corey and Jed Sills , the co-proprietors of a very posh San Francisco investigative agency. The agency's assignments shared a characteristic somewhat unusual for work of this nature: in lieu of investigating the circumstances surrounding crimes that had already occurred, the men were often commissioned by individuals who believed their lives or safety to be in grave danger - in other words, clients who were anticipating the occurrence of some future crime. This set features the entire two-season, 70-episode run of the program, with guests including Martin Landau, Joseph Cotten, Patricia Neal and many others. The set features full-screen presentation, interactive menus and episode selection.
