Entertainment Reviews:
5 stars out of 5 -- [A] consistent triumph of the imagination and, in its own handmade way, a masterpiece of special effects...
Empire
The effects are a miracle of low-budget ingenuity, the dream-like imagery unforgettable...
Uncut
Rating: 5/5 --
It has the mystery and elasticity of a dream, and all the farcical comic horror of chancing across the intricate contents of the Blessed Virgin's lingerie collection.

Guardian
A magical enduring classic, to be seen again and again.

Observer (UK)
Rating: 4/4 --
Cocteau saw film as a kind of poetry on celluloid, and never is that more clear than in Orpheus, which is the director's ultimate statement of his own artistic philosophies.

From the Front Row
Its tight cross-lacing of paranoid dreaming and poetic realism grips like a bondage corset.

Product Description:
Written and directed by Cocteau, this allegorical film retells the legend of Orpheus in a contemporary setting. Orphee (Marais) is a successful Parisian poet, whom--despite popular acclaim--feels isolated and uninspired. When his wife Eurydice (Dea) is stricken down by leather-clad bikers, he pursues them into the underworld, where he falls into a romantic entanglement with the dark-haired beauty Death (Casares). Stunning cinematography and surrealist flairs punctuate this beautiful, hypnotic masterpiece.
