4 stars out of 5 -- [I]t's a platform for deliciously dark wit, beautifully crafted 'toonery and fine voice work, particularly from Philip Seymour Hoffman...

4 stars out of 5 -- Tackling such un-animation topics as loneliness, body image, alcoholism, suicide and Asperger's syndrome, it's quirky, compassionate and slightly seedily sweet.

Rating: A- -- Unapologetically bleak and delivered with dashes of sweetness and sharp wit, Mary and Max deserves notice for being such an unexpected change of pace. Full Review

Rating: 4/5 -- This clay animation feels as if it was written by the early Woody Allen. Actually the genius behind it is Adam Elliot, who wrote, designed and directed this eccentric, wryly funny story. Full Review

Rating: 5/5 -- Up may be a really good film, but compared to Mary and Max it's an episode of Thundercats.

Rating: 3/5 -- "Mary and Max" dares to be equally funny and sad, making it as bittersweet as Max's favorite chocolate. Full Review

Product Description:

This claymation wonder made a splash at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. The surprising friendship between a young Australian girl named Mary (voiced by Toni Collette) and an aging New Yorker named Max (Philip Seymour Hoffman) lies at the heart of this sweet comedy. Though Mary and Max have never met, they communicate via letter, becoming close companions though they are separated by thousands of miles. Barry Humphries provides narration, while Eric Bana also supplies his voice.
