Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 4/5 --
Often unreadable subtitles cannot dim the brilliance of Karen Shakhnazarov's "Ward. No. 6," an inspired reworking of Anton Chekhov short story.
Los Angeles Times
Like the best adaptations, even its inventions are good.

L.A. Weekly
Rating: 3/5 --
The movie's profundity shines through because it gestures at something that might counter its aura of futility and despair.
Boxoffice Magazine
Better in concept than execution, Ward No. 6 is a disappointing modern-day adaptation of a short story by Anton Chekhov.

Film Journal International
Rating: 4/5 --
Much more complex than it first appears and fully deserving of its selection as Russia's foreign language Oscar nominee this year, Ward No 6 persuasively prods at our preconceptions of 'madness'.

Product Description:
Directors Karen Shakhnazarov and Alexander Gornovsky team to adapt legendary author Anton Chekhov's haunting short story detailing a respected doctor's slow descent into madness. Far on the outskirts of Moscow, Dr. Ragin presides over a mental hospital where thoughtful discussion is in very short supply. His only intellectual stimulation comes from his rich philosophical debates with Gromov, a highly intelligent yet deeply disturbed patient at the asylum. In time, however, Gromov's madness begins to rub off on Dr. Ragin. A bold new take on a literary classic, WARD NO. 6 updates the story's original 19th Century setting to present day, and intercuts conversations with actual Moscow mental patients with Chekhov's story to striking effect.
