Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 10/10 --
Ozu trains his trademarked fixed camera on the deceptively simple story of a father and daughter and finds in it nothing short of the whole wide world.

Movie Metropolis
[T]hough Ozu would revisit and refine Late Spring’s themes and motifs throughout the final stretch of his career, no other movie speaks more to his ability to invest tremendous emotional weight into the completely quotidian...
A.V. Club
One of the best two or three films Ozu ever made.

Chicago Sun-Times
LATE SPRING is a profoundly calming film. It encourages the viewer to adapt to its own slow, regular heartbeat...
New York Times
Rating: 4/5 --
Ozu's characters don't seek ecstasy, not because they are afraid of it but because they are brave enough to accept compromise.
New York Times
...A touching film all about attachment, connection, loneliness, abandonment... -- Rating: A
Entertainment Weekly
Haiku-like in its title, its interest in the undramatic silences between scenes, and its enfolding of human behaviour within nature, Late Spring offers tenderness in the place of melodrama and patient truth in the place of sudden revelation.
Vue Weekly (Edmonton, Alberta)
Product Description:
Continuing his exploration of the Japanese family and it's permutations and variations, LATE SPRING is Yasujiro Ozu's fragile tale of a young woman, a bit older than marrying age in traditional Japanese society, who lives a tranquil life with her widowed father. The father begins to worry that his beloved daughter may never leave him and thus spoil her chances for a happy life. After she refuses a proposed husband, the father tricks her by pretending to remarry. The daughter eventually marries in order to leave her father alone with his new wife, and the father who in reality had no intention of marrying, is left alone.
