Like so many faith-based efforts, I Can Only Imagine suffers from a terminal case of self-importance. Full Review

In addition to the Erwins’ solid direction, the strength of the movie is the two central performances.

Rating: 2.5/4 -- An inspirational drama that, unlike most faith-based endeavors, at least looks like a real movie rather than something even Ed Wood would have rejected. Full Review

Why is the movie made from a universally healing single such an earnest, awkward dud? Well, partly because the movie can't settle on what's more important, the family stuff or the ascension of the song as a fame-inducing anthem. Full Review

Product Description:

""I Can Only Imagine"" by the band MercyMe is the best-selling Christian song of all time. While lead singer Bart Millard wrote it in only ten minutes, it was a lifetime in the making. After his mom walks out, Millard (played in the movie by newcomer J. Michael Finley) endures years of abuse at the hands of his bitter father (Dennis Quaid), and uses music to escape. At age 18, Millard witnesses the transformative power of his faith when God begins to change his father's heart and heal their father-son relationship. Cloris Leachman and Trace Adkins co-star.
