Aging Out

Making the transition from foster care to adult life is a delicate step for many youngsters, so directors Vanessa Roth and Roger Weisberg have carefully constructed this thoughtful documentary on the subject. The duo illustrates an enormous chasm between three teenagers' past and present lives, following them as they struggle to adapt to lives away from their carers. With little money available, the threat of drugs looming large, and a life of crime always tempting them, Roth and Weisberg's subjects somehow still manage to carve out decent lives for themselves. The directors paint a portrait of three optimistic souls who struggle for a normal life despite seemingly insurmountable circumstances, creating a film packed full of resilience and hope.
