There is a fine atmospheric quality to the picture that is tight and consistent, and there is more music underlying the story than you may realize, hut, even so, it is disappointing.

The first Marlene Dietrich film not directed by Josef von Sternberg still has some of the Sternbergian sophisticated romantic touch.

Product Description:
A simple peasant girl lives according to the principals and comfort provided by the biblical "Song of Songs". After the death of her father, she is alone in the world except for the song's supportive verses. Soon she becomes entangled in an artist-model relationship, in which first she plays the muse, then the lover, then the spurned lover hell-bent for vengeance.
