Maria Farantouri Sings Taner Akyol

Maria Farantouri, the greatest voice of Greece, is a towering figure of the Greek music scene,
an unquestioned diva of European format moving easily between tradition, classical, and pop
music. Her voice is unique, straddling the fine line between natural and classically trained. This
album is a new venture in her long political involvement for freedom and democracy, as she sings
Greek translations of old Anatolian poems focused on the Kurdish persecution. Composer and
baglama virtuoso Taner Akyol is a young Turkish composer well versed as well in the Turkish
