Rating: 2.5/4 -- What the film does well is to make us part of the problem: After all we demand the lowest prices in everything we buy and that probably means it was made in China.

Visually, the film is rich and subtle -- Burtynsky finds an eerie beauty in the starkest, most poisoned, emptied vistas; what's deathly here is also potent and haunting.

Rating: B+ -- Burtynsky avoids any political content to his work, but it's hard not to feel anxious and sad at the spectacle of the rapid industrialization and urbanization of the world's most populous nation. Full Review

Product Description:

This documentary focuses on Edward Burtynsky, an accomplished Canadian photographer known for grand-scale industrial landscape imagery. From here, director Jennifer Baichwal raises concerns about the environment and the ways in which our planet is changing. Camera man Peter Mettler helps to bring these issues to the forefront through stunning cinematography which acts as a counterpart to Burynsky's images of modern China.
