Entertainment Reviews:
We're forced to meet a text between where it's from - or what it's depicting - and the place we sit or stand. The blend ends up being... enough to give this feature life - if not quite enough of it for its nearly two-hour length.

Sometimes it's too corny for its own good, but it believes deeply in its own take on the historical figure, and effectively layers 31 BC Rome on top of contemporary Detroit.

There's more text than texture in "Ovid and the Art of Love," which hints intriguingly throughout at resistance to a ruling American culture of hypocritical conservatism and sex-negativity - but it leaves a lot between the lines.

[W]hen biopics entertain you with a unique approach like this one, the wild anachronisms only make the film pop more.

Product Description:
Ancient Roman poet Ovid's (Corbin Bleu) life story is transported to modern-day Detroit, but the retelling retains the formalistic language of his time, as well as the occasional togas-and-sandals wardrobe, while mixing with contemporary hip-hop music and Motor City culture. When Ovid pens a highly provocative guide to love and seduction, the artistic act gets him into political trouble with the brutal emperor named Augustus (John Savage). Written and directed by Esmé von Hoffman.
