Among the many challenges faced by U.S. forces during the Vietnam War, none was more pervasive than the rough terrain of southeast Asia. The American military found its solution in the helicopter, whose abilities to fly at low altitudes, land in small areas, quickly transport troops and supplies, and provide aerial weaponry such as mounted machine guns and rocket launchers were perfectly suited to the needs of jungle warfare.
