The Coast (Halifax, Nova Scotia)
Rating: D+ --
The actual dancing scenes are occasionally electrifying, if far too sparse, but other than that and the welcome sight of co-star Chris Brown getting clocked in the face, the film barely gets off the ground, much less sticks the landing.

Should satisfy the planet of b-boys and girls to whom it thoroughly preaches, while amusing anyone else who simply can't ignore the promise of an all-corn buffet.

Rating: D --
Not only does it fail to use 3D, with its rapid edits, but the dramatic stuff is poorly edited and sound mixed as well.

Rating: 2/5 --
Characters are not developed enough. You don't feel for them. Result being, you end up as mere spectators instead of well-wishers. While the film preaches 'passion' for whatever you do, it is exactly what seems to be missing from it.

The Times of India
Josh Holloway tries his hardest, God bless him, but Battle of the Year 3D can't even be enjoyed as a blissfully dumb entry in its genre.

Movie Mezzanine
Despite the reasonable dancing scenes and passable acting by singer Chris Brown, Battle Of The Year is a string of clichés, stock characters and unbearable melodrama.

Product Description:
A veteran basketball coach whips a talented American breakdancing troupe into shape for the biggest b-boy competition in the world in this kinetic dance drama starring LOST's Josh Holloway. For breakdancers, winning the Battle of the Year is like taking the gold medal in the Olympics. Though the competition originated in the U.S., no American has taken the top prize in the past 15 years. A former b-boy with his eyes on the prize, L.A. hip-hop icon Dante (Laz Alonso) is determined to change that. But it's not going to be easy. In order to get the job done, Dante recruits his old friend Blake (Holloway) to help form a b-boy troupe comprised of the best dancers in the country. Having previously coached a basketball team to victory before falling on hard times, Blake knows a thing or two about winning. But with the competition just three weeks away, they'll need a small miracle to reclaim the Battle of the Year for their country. Undaunted, Dante and Blake prepare to dazzle the judges with the kind of moves that will prove b-boy culture is still alive and kicking in the country where it was born.
