Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 3/5 --
If it doesn't always hit its mark, it nonetheless deserves merit for presenting a very different concept with skill and maturity.

Product Description:
Based on Jovanka Bach’s play, CHEKHOV AND MARIA examines the intimate--and deeply manipulative--relationship between the Russian writer and his sister. The film looks back at Chekhov’s attempts to write THE CHERRY ORCHARD amidst his struggle with tuberculosis. Though his sister cares for him and assists him with his play, she soon learns that he has been hiding the fact that he’s married, and schemes to keep him from returning to his life (and wife) in Moscow.
Description by E1 Entertainment Distribution:
Russian playwright Anton Chekhov is ill with tuberculosis and is cared for by his sister Maria. He is desperately struggling to complete his play “The Cherry Orchard.” With Maria's help, he is able to continue writing, but when she discovers that he has secretly married the Moscow Art Theatre actress, she feels betrayed and schemes to prevent him from returning to Moscow. When Chekhov discovers how manipulative Maria has been, the stage is set for a major confrontation.
