The movie is definitely lacking in terms of narrative succinctness, which comes primarily from asking far more questions than it is capable of answering in two hours. Full Review

Its oddly jumbled machinery never clicks. The logic of Chappie gradually disintegrates, becoming increasingly farcical. Full Review

It's this time-old message of humanity, adapted to fit with today's technologies, that transcends the overpowering, at times clunky, cinematic vessel. Full Review

Rating: 2/5 -- Chappie needs one and all to leave practicality, a desire for authentic social statements, and distaste for over-the-top story and character at home. If you can't do that, stay home yourself. Full Review

Rating: B+ -- Blomkamp keeps things moving but has plenty of time for grace notes. Most importantly, he makes us care about all of the characters, so that by the end, we're genuinely invested it how it all turns out. Full Review

Product Description:

Neill Blomkamp (DISTRICT 9, ELYSIUM) expands on his 2003 short film TETRA VAL in this futuristic sci-fi saga written in collaboration with screenwriter Terri Tatchell (who previously worked with Blomkamp on the screenplay for DISTRICT 9), centering on the story of a police robot named Chappie, who develops the ability to think and feel for himself. As people fight back against the mechanized police force, sinister forces seek to capture Chappie for their nefarious purposes.
