Description by

"There are people who can slap you on the back with one hand and pick your pocket with the other...and it could happen to you." Ripped from the case files of police forces across the country, "Racket Squad" sought to expose the devious machinations of the con man. Running from 1951-1953, "Racket Squad" was one of the first series to portray the gritty reality of criminal investigation and was twice nominated for an Emmy award.

Babies For Sale: A young couple stand to lose their baby and their life savings after doing business with a questionable adoption agency.

Blessed Expense: Expectant young couples are victimized by a phony medical insurance scam.

Pick A Number: A clerk receives death-threats, when he refuses to falsify the numbers for a gambling syndicate.

The Sure Thing: A businessman finds himself facing murder charges, after losing thousands in a gambling scam.

Product Description:

A police drama that originally aired on CBS from June 1951 through late September 1953, RACKET SQUAD starred Reed Hadley as Captain John Braddock, a cop investigating such crimes as bribery, loan sharking, extortion and money laundering in the police department of some large, unnamed metropolis. Highest on his list, however, were "confidence rackets" that found wily con men attempting to fleece money from unsuspecting locals. The series only ran for three seasons, but bore distinction for basing its scripts on actual police files and real-life scams that the criminals pulled (with the names changed, of course). Hadley narrated in addition to starring. This box set contains four original episodes: BABIES FOR SALE, about a sketchy adoption agency; BLESSED EXPENSE, about a medical insurance scam; PICK A NUMBER, about a gambling syndicate; and THE SURE THING, about a gambling racket .
