Bop alto sax player Lou Donaldson's big break came as a member of Art Blakey's Quintet, which appeared at Birdland in 1954. Largely influenced by the playing of Charlie Parker, Donaldson went on to develop his own sound by mixing elements of Blues and Funk into his playing. This two-for-one compact disc presents some of Donaldson's most memorable work recorded for Atlantic in the 1970s.
