Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: C+ --
Cold in July is made with skill, acted with proficiency and has a story with unfulfilled potential.

Assignment X
Rating: 4/5 --
The elements of what follows are all recognisable, with organised crime, police corruption and a pornography ring all stirred into the mix, but that's part of the film's seedy charm.

Daily Telegraph (UK)
Rating: 6/10 --
With strong character work from Hall, Shepard and Johnson; Cold in July is a fun little noir film that is worth spending the time with on a rainy night.

The Hollywood Outsider
Rating: 6.9/10 --
The film's weakness is that the varied forms it inhabits feel largely derivative, not elevated enough to free themselves from the norm.

Way Too Indie
There’s a very 1980s vibe to the middle passage, especially once the director cranks up Jeff Grace’s mood music....Entertaining...
A.V. Club
3 stars out of 5 -- [W]e get reliably twinkly performances from old pros Shepard and Johnson, Jeff Grace’s lovely synthy score, an explosive climax, and the feeling that we never know what’s going to happen next…
Total Film
Rating: 3.5/4 --
A well-paced story that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats as it bucks and rolls in unexpected directions to a bloody and satisfying climax.

Product Description:
Initially hailed as a hero for fatally shooting a low-life burglar who broke into his house, small-town Texan Richard Dane (Michael C. Hall) begins to fear for his family's safety when the victim's ex-con father (Sam Shepard) turns up in town making some not-so-veiled threats. Don Johnson, Vinessa Shaw, and Nick Damici (who also penned the screenplay) co-star in this thriller directed by Jim Mickle (STAKE LAND, WE ARE WHAT WE ARE) and based on the book by Joe R. Landsdale.
