Rating: 3.5/4 -- Le Doulos is all about style and trenchcoats and hats, and, while I tend to prefer Melville's later, color films (Le Samourai, Army of Shadows, Le Cercle Rouge, Un Flic), this one is still recommended. Full Review

Rating: 3.5/4 -- Does it matter that what we're seeing is not necessarily what we're getting? Not at all. The movie is entirely about how it looks and feels. Full Review

Rating: 3.5/4 -- Le Doulos roots itself in traditional noir themes of providence, of loyalty and betrayal, of male codes of honor, and ultimately of man's inability to escape his lot in life. Full Review

Product Description:

This complex thriller follows the fatalistic relationship between two men: Maurice, a crook just out of prison and Silien (Belmondo), who may or may not be a Doulos (a kind of high-class informer). Maurice, wasting no time, immediately begins to put himself on the wrong side of the law, setting up a number of robberies with the help of Silien, whom he begins to suspect is a police informer. A spellbinding New Wave noir from director Jean-Pierre Melville (LE SAMOURAI).
