Entertainment Reviews:
The Last Black Man in San Francisco possessed a rare quality of being deeply authentic and idiosyncratic at the same time. I haven't seen anything quite like it.

The Tyee (British Columbia)
Rating: 2/5 --
The Last Black Man in San Francisco has a bad case of whimsicality. There is no cure for this except sour lemons, which Joe Talbot's film invites critics to throw.

As it stands, this indie drama is a haunting and elegiac ode to San Francisco's storied past, in-flux present, and uncertain future.

What I felt were off-putting idiosyncrasies at the start inevitably become charming quirks to remember fondly. [I eventually got] swept up by the film's artistic potency.

Product Description:
Jimmie (Jimmie Fails), who lives with his best friend Mont (Jonathan Majors) and Mont's disabled dad (Danny Glover) in San Francisco, is obsessed with the idea of buying back and inhabiting his grandfather's two-story Victorian in the Fillmore. The house was built by Jimmie's grandfather, and he knows that with his meager earnings from working in a elderly care facility, he will never afford to buy the house, now nestled in a primarily white, affluent area. But he refuses to be phased out, regularly visiting and entering the house to dream as the city around him changes. Directed by Joe Talbot.
