Rating: 4/5 -- A cold, cruel, piercingly humane sci-fi parable that's both bang on the zeitgeist and yet also unnervingly original. Full Review

Aniara is a compelling study of human nature, which never shies away from condemning the ways in which mankind has scuppered its own continued existence, and will continue to do so even when it does consider a move into the stars. Full Review

Rating: 4.5/5 -- Although little of this is new, it's delivered with poise and grace, aided by finely tuned performances. Interpersonal dynamics are explored with a light touch but it takes only the slightest deviation to reveal great gulfs of darkness. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- Aniara cogently makes the point that if mankind ever does manage to leave this blighted planet for another, we'll bring our problems with us. Full Review

3 stars out of 4 -- This is an exemplary high-concept contemporary sci-fi film....The fly-on-various-walls tenor of the direction is aided greatly by Sophie Winqvist’s cinematography.

Rating: 4/5 -- A haunting allegorical tale, Aniara warns of humanity hurtling in the wrong direction and realising too late that there is no turning back. Full Review

Physically, it’s an impressive production, one that offers a few glimpses of the ship moving through the darkness...

Product Description:

This Swedish film, directed by Pella Kågerman and Hugo Lilja, is based on a 1956 sci-fi poem by Harry Martinson of the same name. It details life for the human inhabitants on the spaceship Aniara as it travels from a close-to uninhabitable earth to its new colonial destination of Mars. However, soon after take off, the spaceship collides with space shrapnel and is sent off course. With the uncertainty of their arrival and supplies running out, a Virtual Reality room run by Mimaroben (Emelie Jonsson) built for passengers to experience memories of earth is overrun by demand.
