Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 2/5 --
A pretty but weakly written and acted period piece.
Orlando Sentinel
Rating: B- --
A smoothly mixed religious drama with all the professional production value you could expect from any film
Tooele Transcript-Bulletin (Utah)
Rating: 3/5 --
Offers an efficient and often credible, if overly sanitized, look at the time, place and circumstances in which the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was born.

Earnest, admirable and pretty, but about as compelling as one of the blander episodes of 'Little House on the Prairie.'

There's no denying there's a compelling movie in the life of the founder of the Mormon church, and there's also no denying that The Work and the Glory is not that film.

It's hard to imagine this movie capturing an audience outside the Mormon community.

Product Description:
Based on the first volume of the book series by Gerald N. Lund, THE WORK AND THE GLORY presents a dramatized account of the founding of the Mormon church, as seen through the eyes of the fictional Steed family. Benjamin Steed, the family patriarch, hires Joseph Smith and his brother as farmhands, unaware that Joseph holds a controversial reputation in town. Steed's son Joshua befriends Joseph, and learns that the other man has been contacted by God on numerous occasions, which some of the townspeople doubt. Joshua has faith in his friend, however, and must prove it by defending him against his brother Nathan, who has fallen in with a rough crowd that plans a bad fate for Joseph. THE WORK AND THE GLORY represents a significant step forward for the small but dedicated Mormon film industry, with production vales comparable to a Hollywood film.
