[A] poignant meditation on mortality -- both for the real lives unfolding on onscreen, and for the actors who’ve spent their own lives turning these stories into something more than real; they’ve made them ours. -- Grade: B+

5 stars out of 5 -- De Niro is equally dialled down, a man at the centre of the action but always removed from it. It’s his best work in years.

[A] sprawling gangland saga that's by turns flinty, amusing, richly nostalgic and rueful.
