Rating: 3/4 -- [The film] shows how politically effective it was to not just be a part of popular culture but to use it to shape people's perception of a candidate as a man of the people. Full Review

[A] documentary of infectious and lively nostalgia that’s about just what its title says: the fact that Jimmy Carter became the first U.S. president to express, in ways both big and small, a profound affinity with rock ‘n’ roll culture.

Product Description:

This documentary presents a different perspective of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter: as the first sitting president who embraced and encouraged rock-and-roll and championed popular music as an integral part of American culture. The film highlights Carter's affinity for songs that championed the working class, notably by Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson, and his strong bonds and lasting friendships with several musicians such as The Allman Brothers and U2's Bono. The film also shows how he championed various musicians during his time at the White House. Directed by Mary Wharton.
