The Softones Carla My Love *

Although they didn't enjoy the same level of success as peer groups such as the Stylistics and The Moments, The Softones' recordings have grown in popularity over the years since their original release and have gained a new momentum among collectors of rare soul music over the ensuing decades. Originally hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, The Softones began their recording career in the early 1970's for the New York based Avco label, releasing three albums and approximately a dozen singles; including “That Old Black Magic” which rose to the #2 spot on the disco chart in 1976. Notable for lead singer J. Marvin Brown's distinctive high falsetto, The Softones also included the vocal talents of Elton Lynch and Steve Jackson. The album presented here, “Carla My Love,” dates back to 1979 and features the cream of the crop of New York session musicians and some of The Softones most memorable tunes including the popular “Carla My Love,” “Can You Feel It” and “I Just Had To Dance.” Included is a bonus instrumental version of “Carla My Love” plus the original 12” version of “I Just Had To Dance.” All selections have been newly remastered.
