In 1881 Algeria, a French officer (Cesare Donova) and an Irish adventurer (Sean McCory) are about to fight a duel over a woman. Suddenly, a great wind commences putting an abrupt end to the contest. The two antagonists find themselves in a strange land, and decide they must temporarily cooperate in order to survive. They eventually discover that they are no longer on earth but on a comet inhabited by Neanderthals, prehistoric beasts and primitive people. Apparently the comet also brushed earth thousands of years earlier explaining the terrestrial life.
The movie makes extensive use of file footage from other movies. I recognized Rodan making a cameo appearance. So much of the film footage is taken from the 1940 movie One Million B. C. that plot elements of that picture also had to be adopted. Those familiar with that picture (and the 1966 remake One Million Years B. C.) will recognize the rock tribe and the shell tribe. The “dragons” are mostly lizards and baby alligators.
I am impressed how cleverly the film was edited. The story is consistent despite its adoption of so much footage from One Million B. C. The Valley of the Dragons is worth a viewing.
