Product Description:
For all he contributed to the world of jazz, it's hard to believe that Charlie Shavers started to wind down his career in his early 40's when most jazz cats are just beginning to refine their craft -he was just 51 years old when he died in 1971 from throat cancer. He was a "musician's musician" and a champion of the sumptuous, melodic line. Jazz aficionados will remember the great excitement he generated at Jazz at the Philharmonic when he and Roy Eldridge's trumpet battles provided some of the most exciting performances in jazz history. On this rare classic audiophile recording from 1960, Charlie's horn is front and center, backed by pianist Ray Bryant's trio. Impressive trumpet solos abound as Charlie leads the quartet through a nice selection of standards including "September In The Rain," "Lover," "Bye Bye Blackbird" and many more. All selections have been newly remastered.
