Product Description:
The famous jazz guitarist Sam Herman also became very proficient on the xylophone, partially because he was left-handed, so was easily able to play the melody with his left hand and harmony notes with his right. Herman, based out of New York City, became a first-call session player on the keyboard percussion instrument for more than four decades, during the early days of the American recording industry. He was featured on radio, television, and was NBC's staff xylophonist from 1928 to 1966. Herman was a huge influence on all keyboard percussionists, especially in the realm of jazz. Presented here is Sammy Herman's rare 1959 audiophile recording "Something Old And Something New," cut with a sextet comprised of Herman on xylophone, Nick Perito organ, John Cali guitar, William Gussak drums, William Dorn marimba and vibraphone, and Ed Safranski bass. This particular recording has been praised for it's sonic superiority and features crystal clear hi-fi performances of classics such as "Heartaches," "Bye Bye," "Raggin' the Scales," etc. All selections newly remastered.
