A kung-fu academy in Los Angeles is the setting of producer Joseph Lai's RIVALS OF THE DRAGON. Lai is responsible for films with titles like ZOMBIE V. NINJA and THUNDER NINJA KIDS AND THE HUNT FOR THE DEVIL BOXER, so expect a combination of martial arts, comedy, and unusual story lines. RIVALS OF THE DRAGON concerns Master Chan's battles against a group of L.A. gangsters who have tried to blame him for the misdeeds of one of his students. Through his struggles, he becomes reconciled with his troublemaking son. The son is played by Tak Yeun, who would later become the fight choreographer on a number of Jet Li's films, including ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA III and THE ONE. Notably, the characters in the film practice the rare Crane style kung-fu, which was reportedly featured on film for the first time here.
