Description by OLDIES.com:
Mister Lobo celebrates 20 years of hosting his show
Cinema Insomnia. In the tradition of those classic horror shows like
Chiller Theatre and
Creature Features, host Lobo appears in brief vignettes between segments of the "late late night movie." Each episode begins with Mr. Lobo promising to screen a bonafide horror classic, only to have the rug pulled out from under him when he is told that a cheap public domain movie has to be shown instead. Various and sundry wacky characters have appeared over the show's two-decade run – including Lobo's houseplant sidekick, Miss Mittens. Beloved as an authority on "Bad Movies", Mr. Lobo lives by the motto, "They're not bad movies...just...
misunderstood."
Another classic "lost" black and white episode of Cinema Insomnia from the 1960s has been found on kinescope in Mr. Lobo's sock drawer! Back then the show was called Insomniac Theater, and Mr. Lobo was on a major network. He was a bit younger, a bit more full of himself (hard to believe) and thought girls liked the smell of Brylcreem. On this auspicious date in 1964 Mr. Lobo was proud to present The Bat, the 1926 silent classic that inspired the creators of Batman….until he realizes it's not the original, but the mind-numbingly boring Vincent Price remake from 1959. Yes, even the Merchant of Menace made his share of stinkers, especially when he's paired with Endora from Bewitched in a creaky old dark house mystery. But Mr. Lobo keeps things light with fun retro trailers, nostalgic drive-in snack bar ads, and Vincent Price wine cooler commercials! Warning: Some of the points of view that were commonplace in the early 60s are considered naive and unhealthy today. So take this "flashback" show with a grain of salt and historical context, and consult your nearest angry mob if you're not sure how to feel!
