Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 3.5/5 --
There is something undeniably endearing about the film's assertions that happiness is a choice and that self-acceptance is the foundation of contentment.

The cast is appealing, particularly Stewart and Arthur, but it's not enough.

Time Out
Capra's unapologetic belief in the myth of a truly egalitarian America seems right at home. It seems time has made this old film new once again.

The Young Folks
The comedy moves smoothly and briskly under Capra's canny method of direction.

Product Description:
Tony (James Stewart), the eldest son of millionaire Anthony P. Kirby, has fallen in love with Alice Vanderhof. She's a sweet working girl who lives with her eccentric family and a few extra misfits in a decaying old house. It's a building that just happens to stand in the way of Mr. Kirby's plans to construct an impressive office complex. But when Grandpa Vanderhof refuses to sell, it's a clash of the cantankerous titans. Unfortunately, the fallout may send lovebirds Tony and Alice flying in different directions. YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU is a Capra-fied adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, and it earned a number of Oscar nominations and wins, including the Best Picture statuette.
Description by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment:
Academy Award(r) winner James Stewart (1940 Best Actor, The Philadelphia Story and 1985 Honorary Oscar(r)), Jean Arthur, Academy Award(r) winner Lionel Barrymore (1931 Best Actor, A Free Soul) and Edward Arnold star in this classic screwball comedy. Based on the phenomenally successful Kaufman-Hart play,You Can't Take It With You was directed by Frank Capra and won two Academy Awards(r) (1938 Best Picture, Best Director) and garnered five more nominations. It was Capra's third Oscar(r) for directing. Arthur stars as Alice Sycamore, the stable family member of an offbeat clan of free spirits who falls for Stewart, the down-to-earth son of a snooty, wealthy family. Amidst a backdrop of confusion, the two very different families rediscover the simple joys of life.
