Kid Blue has a meandering jug band sensibility and a premise hilariously relevant to Hopper's situation.

Kid Blue is a well-meaning, liberal, anti-fascist Western, dressed up with some good performances by Peter Boyle, Lee Purcell and Janice Rule. But it's not a very good movie.

It was a keen satire of the last of the frontier days, but its hipness failed to rub off on me.

A gentle little fable about the mechanization of the west and its effects on a small-time outlaw.

Description by OLDIES.com:
Bickford Warner, a.k.a. Kid Blue (Dennis Hopper), a bumbling outlaw at the turn of the century, tries, unsuccessfully, to retire from his life of crime while trying to build a new life in a town of eccentrics. The Sheriff (Ben Johnson) is on his case, berating him and calling him white trash. But then again, maybe blending in isnt possible in this town of eccentrics, including a married man (Warren Oates) who rhapsodizes about male companionship and the Greeks, and a fire-and-brimstone preacher (Peter Boyle) who is building an aero-cycle and praises the Lord for his gifts of peyote, hemp and alcohol. Eventually, though, Bickford is drawn back to a life of crime.
