The History of the Organ (4-DVD)

This four-part series outlines the history of the organ, ranging from the beauty of the sound to the wealth of music written for it, and encompassing not only the craftmanship involved in building such a complicated structure, but also the wonderful settings in which these instruments now reside. The first disc celebrates the Italian style, 16th century Spain and France; the second the development during the 17th and 18th centuries. The third disc focuses on the fist half of the 18th century - the "golden age" of organ music. The 4th disc traces the organ's development from the beginning of the 19th century to the present day.
