Rating: 1/5 -- This nasty, witless and hopelessly dated effort is still a landmark release. Think of it like the first dog shot into space, but don't forget it is an absolute dog. Full Review

The acting is more wooden than the numerous coffins, the plot a rehash of any crazed serial killer flick you care to mention, with extra torture. It's unremittingly nasty stuff. Full Review

Rating: 1.5/5 -- I'd read about this one for three years. Then I saw it and forgot it immediately. Full Review

Rating: 1/5 -- Another week, another yucky horror film with a title that sounds like "Saw". This one's in 3D. Full Review

Rating: 1/5 -- The result is humourless, implausible and lacks a single original idea. There would be no reason for this film to exist, were it not the first live action feature shot entirely in HD3D. Full Review

Rating: 2/5 -- The perspecto-effects are a real letdown, while the pacing and performances are as flat as roadkill. Full Review

Rating: 1/5 -- To make a 3-D 'torture porn' movie is at best opportunist; to make one with flat, boring torture scenes is unforgivable. Full Review

Despite the killer's slavering way with a scalpel, there's no blood spurting out into your near-vision, just a lot of hopeless acting in your face. Full Review

Description by OLDIES.com:

After a botched hit on a casino, the criminal mastermind John Muller has nowhere to run. With a band of killers on his trail, he hides out in an anonymous office job, knowing that his days are numbered. When he is mistaken for the psychiatrist Dr. Bartok, he finds his escape route. The doctor is a dead ringer for Muller, except for a hideous scar on his face. By inflicting the gruesome wound on his own cheek, the criminal is able to assume Bartok's identity. Through a twist of fate, Muller cuts the scar onto the wrong side of his face and finds his survival threatened. Unable to keep this precarious balance any longer, he makes one last attempt at escape before fate closes in on him.

Paul Henreid produced and starred in this inspired film-noir thriller. The nail-biting tension is magnified by phenomenal performances by Joan Bennett (Scarlet Street) and John Qualen (Paul Henreid's co-star in Casablanca). The Scar also introduces Dragnet's Jack Webb in his first motion picture role.

Haunting Movie Lover: from Walnut Creek, CA US -- January, 25, 2009

Excellent cinematography by John Alton. Fascinating. Excellent performances by Paul Henreid and Joan Bennett. Plot about as subtle as a house on fire, but plenty enough to chew on. Taking on the identity of a psychiatrist, even though he is horrified on discovering he has scarred the wrong side of his face, he's in the clear as everyone in his life is so self-absorbed, they don't notice.

The Scar Movie Lover: from clamart, Hauts-de-Seine FR -- May, 8, 2004

Incredible, far-fetched story of a man that assumes another mans place is definitly done on an A budget, definitly film noir and definitly intiguing! Nice performances by Henreid and lovely Bennett. Worth a viewing! Nice print.
