Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 66/100 --
This is all potentially interesting, to be sure, but the ideas are wrapped in a surprisingly innocuous package.
Apollo Guide
A brimming sense of life, in other words, gradually transforms the small talk into a richly devious portrait of humanity being human.

Time Out
Perhaps the most delightful of Yasujiro Ozu's late comedies.

Chicago Reader
Rating: A- --
Ozu's delicate, wry comedy of manners takes a sympathetic but not uncritical look at life and etiquette in a small 1950s Japanese village community.

Decent Films Guide
This may not be one of Ozu's most acclaimed works, yet its contemplative style and its qualities of humour, tenderness and absence of cynicism make for an absorbing film.

[T]his little tale of two young brothers' silent rebellion is shot through with cheerful humor, and intriguing details of suburban Japan as it started opening up to Western culture.

All hail Ozu.

Product Description:
Two young brothers in suburban Japan demand a television set from their father, and are promptly told to shut up. In protest, the boys take their father at his word and cease speaking, refusing to say even "good morning" to the neighborhood ladies, causing a neighborhood quarrel. This reconfigured remake of Ozu's I WAS BORN, BUT... brings the focus on the dissolution of the family into the realm of the farce, all the while maintaining the sense of sadness present in all of his films.
