We're in great company and the story's physical confines don't restrict its range or ambitions. As well as dissecting a 30-year marriage, Potter's script takes in the state of Britain today.

You know you're in for it with writer-director Sally Potter's trenchant character slayer when the opening shot is of a frantic Kristin Scott Thomas brandishing a gun.

Like a real shindig, The Party takes a while to settle into a groove - but once the champagne is flowing and the blood hits the floor, it's an absolute blast to laugh with Sally Potter as she mercilessly puts the liberal elite to task.

Product Description:
A married couple, Leonor and Rogerio, celebrate their tenth anniversary together by holding a wild party in the Azores. During the course of the party Leonor is aggressively pursued by an aging playboy, Michel. This leads to a game of cat and mouse with fascinating effects for all down the road. An intriguing look at sexual politics from veteran director Oliveira, who was in his late eighties while directing this film.
