Rating: 1.5/4 -- There are moments of tenderness and honest human emotion buried in the frustrating "A Long Way Down" but one has to work far too hard and give far too much credit to the over-qualified cast to grab at them. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- Aside from a gloriously entertaining performance from Imogen Poots, A Long Way Down, though entertaining at times, is somewhat misjudged and profoundly forgettable. Full Review

Rating: 0.5/5 -- Butchering its Nick Hornby based source material, the end result is an aggravating chore to sit through. Full Review

Rating: 1.5/4 -- "A Long Way Down" doesn't bother to explore its characters on any substantial level and comes close to offending in how flippant the whole thing is to the subject of suicide. Full Review

Rating: 2/5 -- Tackles the topic of life-ending despair with all the delicacy and grace of a Hallmark greeting card. Full Review

Rating: 3/4 -- As British comedy sometimes will, "A Long Way Down" has an occasional attack of the cutes, but the actors' commitment keeps the movie on the plus side. Full Review

A life of its own is exactly what this slight and silly film lacks. You keep waiting for the story to dig in, but everyone just skitters over the surface. Revelations, when they are made, are lame. Characterization is willy-nilly. Full Review

Product Description:

Four suicidal strangers find support in the last place they ever expected to in this emotionally charged comedy-drama based on the novel by Nick Hornby. It's New Year's Eve in London, and disgraced television personality Martin (Pierce Brosnan) is about to take a flying leap off of Topper's Tower when he's interrupted by Maureen (Toni Collette), a lonely single mother who's reached the end of her rope. Meanwhile, as the pair realize their suicide plans have overlapped, onto the rooftop dashes Jess (Imogen Poots), a rebellious teen with nothing left to live for. Just when it seems this despairing group can't possibly get any bigger, rocker-turned-pizza delivery driver J.J. (Aaron Paul) shows up with a fresh pie and a death wish. Rather than taking the plunge together, the unlikely foursome decide to put their plans off until Valentine's Day -- sticking together and supporting one another in the interim. Later, as their friendship deepens, their unusual pact stirs a media firestorm. Sam Neill and Rosamund Pike co-star.
