Even those engrossed by the build-up here are likely to kiss off the rest after suffering through Girls' groaner of a wrap-up.

...Freeman and Judd are well-cast...

Mr. Freeman, a marvelous actor with a beautiful voice, meets his vocal match in Ms. Judd, who is audibly her mother Naomi's daughter.

like a good-looking blind date who promises dinner and a movie, then takes you to Burger King and "Wishmaster," the spell dissipates quickly, leaving you feeling seduced and abandoned.

Freeman and Judd are so good, you almost wish they'd decided not to make a thriller at all -- had simply found a way to construct a drama exploring their personalities.

Product Description:
North Carolina police detective Dr. Alex Cross (Morgan Freeman) tracks an elusive psychopath whose modus operandi is not necessarily killing the young women he abducts but "collecting" them as trophies. Unfortunately, his quarry includes the detective's own law-student niece, so his race against time, with the help of a no-nonsense medical intern Dr. Kate McTiernan (Ashley Judd) who escaped the "collection," is all the more desperate. A spare, by-the-numbers thriller. Based on the series of novels by James Patterson.
