While the underdeveloped script - co-written by Richard Gladstein - never earns its sense of self-importance, the visuals are evocative enough to draw us further into the movie's ultimately unsatisfying mysteries. Full Review

Rating: 2/4 -- Director Nemad Cicin-Sain and co-writer Richard N. Gladstein are both guilty of serving up a totally empty, tonally confused meditation on the creative process. Full Review

While trying to examine the difficulty of reconciling an artist's identity with the banality of everyday responsibilities, The Time Being wastes its potential on trite passages of dialogue and melodramatic flourishes. Full Review

Rating: 3/4 -- There reaches a point... at which the film settles into a deliberately-paced yet completely watchable groove, with the emphasis on the relationship between the two men ensuring that The Time Being ultimately succeeds as a low-key drama. Full Review

Product Description:

A struggling artist goes to work for a mysterious millionaire in this enigmatic drama starring Frank Langella and Wes Bentley. Daniel (Bentley) is a painter whose works don't sell, and whose marriage is failing. Self-absorbed to a fault, Daniel hesitantly accepts a lucrative commission from Warner (Langella), a wealthy recluse with a hidden agenda. At first the job entails little more than capturing a sunset, or some children playing, on video. But as Daniel's marriage continues to fall apart, he tries in vain to discern Warner's true intentions.
