[Cassavetes'] final performance is so powerful ... Rowlands, of course, rises to meet his performance.

Under the Radar
This is a great film, and worthy of the effort it takes to sit through it.

Combustible Celluloid
Wrenching drama shares the screen with surreal comedy, and fisheye lens dream sequences cut into long, static takes where one speaker in a conversation is framed out...they add up to a masterpiece. -- Grade: A
A.V. Club
...One of the filmmaker's best, both artistically and commercially....Emotionally potent, technically assured and often brilliantly insightful...
Variety
...Cassavettes, as both actor and director, is never wihtout his own peculiar magnetism and authority. Once again, he is able to galvanize a long, rambling, quirky psychodrama through sheer force of personality...
New York Times
Love Streams is at once a culmination of the director's obsessions and his most atypical film.
Village Voice
...Cassavetes' raw talk and tense hysterics produce a softhearted wonder....It's the emotional equivalent of a slasher film...

Product Description:
In adapting Ted Allan's play, John Cassavetes dives headlong into issues concerning love and its complications. The story follows two seemingly unconnected individuals who are in the midst of personal crises. Robert Harmon (Cassavetes) is a successful writer who can't seem to control his libido; he fills his house with a rotating cast of attractive females in order to feel less lonely. Sarah Lawson (Gena Rowlands) is a fragile woman whose life begins to fall apart when her husband divorces her and retains custody of her daughter. In a series of events, Robert takes his young son Albie on a debauched trip to Las Vegas upon seeing him for the first time since his birth; he also tries to convince Sarah to love her own daughter just little bit less. John Cassavetes's last screen appearance as an actor, and last personal film as a director, is another challenging drama that tackles deeply profound questions without becoming heavy handed.
