Calculus? Nah. Chem? No way. Russian Lit? Oh, please. College in 1929, in Hollywood at least, was all about girls, football and girls! Robert Montgomery graduates summa cum laughter in this rah-rah musical, playing a football star who lets a devious coed come between himself and his buddy (Elliott Nugent). Actual USC-Stanford game footage provides much of the gridiron action. And the two young actors would go on to first-string careers: Montgomery as one of the top leading men of the Golden Age and Nugent as a successful playwright (The Male Animal) and director (The Male Animal, My Favorite Brunette).

In this campus musical, the 1928 big game between USC and Stanford provides the impetus for music and mayhem. The story centers upon two USC teammates, Eddie and Biff, who share just about everything, even their girl friend, Babs. The trouble is, they don't know they are both dating Babs until just before the crucial game. Fortunately, the coach is there to mediate between the two angry men. He reminds them that women are not as important as winning the game.
