Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 3.5/4 --
Yet unlike many similar films of the late 40s and 50s, which took a "there but for the grace of god go I" point of view toward societal issues, Lupino's films replaced pity with empathy, and she treated her characters with compassion rather than judgment.

From the Front Row
Not Wanted effectively exposes women's internalization of shame surrounding sex and motherhood-to Sally, the baby is a proof of her shame, a physical manifestation of her social rejection, and the rejection of a man who did not love her.

Product Description:
When a waitress's one-night stand results in an unwanted pregnancy, her life spins out of control in this powerful film that was one of the first to honestly examine the plight of women in America. Maverick filmmaker Lupino wrote, produced and directed this film, though she went uncredited for directing when taking over three days into shooting, after director Elmer Clifton fell victim to a heart attack.
