Intimate moments between Fishback and Kaluuya add welcome dimension, humanizing Hampton -- who was too easily painted as an agitator by his enemies -- as a lover and a fighter.
Variety
King directs with a refreshingly flinty sense of moral clarity, evident right from the film’s opening montage.
Sight and Sound
4 stars out of 5 -- King knows his subject well enough to imbue it with confident, emotional complexity and an irresistible, visual swagger.
Empire
Rating: 7/10 --
It is a historical drama that, in an intriguing and surprising way, takes two hours to tell a story about betrayal, politics and revolutionary causes, with two fascinating performances from Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield. [Full review in Spanish]

Cinemaficionados
[A] tense, methodical historical drama....The script, by King and Will Berson, is layered with ethical snares and ideological paradoxes, and while King’s fast-paced direction doesn’t spare the suspense, it also makes room for sorrow, anger and even a measure of exhilaration.
New York Times
4 stars out of 5 -- [A] fiercely watchable and passionately performed drama from the director Shaka King, with barnstorming performances from Lakeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya...
The Guardian
Rating: 4/5 --
Kaluuya is terrific..

But as Fred attracts more people and gains more political power, William is faced with a difficult decision: stay loyal to his comrades and thwart Fred and the Black Panther Party, or side with the enemy and align with the forces of good.
