[A] flamboyant, engaging action comedy.

Rating: 2.5/4 -- A Rage in Harlem is the kind of film that, every ten minutes or so, requires violent bloodshed or a sexual rendezvous to prevent audiences from becoming glassy-eyed and slack-jawed. Full Review

That extraordinary cast, directed by Bill Duke, has little to do other than idle between sporadic outbursts of sadistic violence. Full Review

Rating: 1/5 -- As the movie becomes increasingly violent and unpleasant, the characters chase around after each other in a threadbare gangster plot about a trunk of gold. Full Review

Duke keeps this tangled tale of lust and larceny bouncing with a disreputable, funloving B-movie energy that's hard to resist. Full Review

Rating: 1.5/4 -- With its snazzy Elmer Bernstein score, its snappy period flavor and its all-star cast doing something completely different, A Rage in Harlem should have been much more fun than it is. Full Review

Product Description:

A RAGE IN HARLEM starts out with brutal violence, proceeds into bawdy comedy, and somehow ends up a surprisingly touching love story. Forest Whitaker stars as Jackson, a naively pious accountant at a Harlem funeral parlor. When the sexy Imabelle, played to vamping perfection by Robin Givens, rolls into town with a trunk full of stolen gold, Jackson's world is turned upside down. But when the bad guys arrive--hot on Imabelle's heels--Jackson desperately turns to his estranged stepbrother, Goldy (Gregory Hines), the only person he knows who might have the street smarts to get them all out of trouble.
