Biography

3 December 1911, Milan, Italy, d. 10 April 1979, Rome, Italy. Rota was a prolific composer for films from the early 30s to the late 70s. A child prodigy, he wrote an oratorio and an opera before he was aged 15. He studied at the Milan Conservatory, the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, and, later, at the Liceo Musicale in Bari, eventually becoming its director from 1950-78.
