New York Tribune
From the standpoint of a film production, there have been more expensive and pretentious attempts, but It is safe to assert that nothing quite like Director Tourneur's work has ever been shown on the screen.

Variety
Visually creative, if episodic film, with an unusual, non-naturalistic style.

It is a safe assertion to say that seldom, if ever, has the atmosphere and spirit of a written work been more faithfully reproduced in motion pictures.

Description by OLDIES.com:
Legendary director Maurice Tourneur brings Maurice Maeterlinck's classic "The Blue Bird" to the silent screen in a visually stunning, magical production, deemed by many critics his masterpiece. Tourneur skillfully blends location photography with spectacular and imaginative sets by his brilliant art director, Ben Carre, to create a mystical world. This film's historical and aesthetic significance earned it selection for preservation by The Library of Congress.
Peasant children Tyltyl and Mytyl look with longing eyes at the lavish homes and wonderful feasts at the homes of the rich children across the way. The enchanted fairy Berylune awakens them from their slumber with a magic hat, which lets them see the soul of all things, and most wonderfully, converse freely with their beloved dog and cat. Led by the fairy, the children set out on a quest to find and capture the "Bluebird Of Happiness." They travel across the universe to strange and distant kingdoms, to discover the dwelling place of the mystical creature.
