Dudley Moore, who of course is best known as an actor, has been playing piano since his youth. This CD is not, strictly speaking, a jazz album, but a collection of ballads that Moore had written through the years. On the classical-oriented solo set (which at times borders on Muzak), Moore's acoustic piano is backed by his synthesizer and, on two numbers, joined by Kenny G's soprano. A step above new age music, the romantic set sticks exclusively to a thoughtful mood, serving as high-quality background music without ever getting beyond the melodies. ~ Scott Yanow
